Awards at the Global Conference
Each year the ILA is pleased to honor both those who have made significant lifetime achievements to the study and practice of leadership and those who are just beginning their career in the field of leadership. Awardees all play a special role at the conference, whether it is taking the plenary stage, participating in a spotlighted concurrent session, or being honored at a special event.
2026 Lifetime Achievement Award Winners
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors individuals who have contributed in significant and diverse ways to the field of leadership studies. Each honoree is presented with the award and has their work celebrated at ILA’s Global Conference. Furthermore, each honoree participates in a featured concurrent session as a “Conversation With…” the winner.
Dr. Mary Crossan

Dr. Mary Crossan’s highly cited work on leader character, organizational learning, strategic renewal, and improvisation has been featured in over 100 articles and books. As a regular contributor to Forbes, she shares profound insights and practical strategies that reveal how character transforms individuals and organizations. Her books, Developing Leadership Character and The Character Compass, offer an in-depth look at what it takes to elevate character alongside competence. She is a co-founder of Leader Character Associates and the innovative Virtuosity Character Development app. She collaborates with organizations around the globe, guiding them in developing and investing in leader character to shape the future of leadership.

Professor Dennis Tourish
Emeritus Professor, University of Sussex Businesss School
Dennis Tourish is Emeritus Professor of Leadership and Organization Studies at the University of Sussex Business School. His latest book is due in 2027 and is entitled Selling Salvation: False Utopias and the Dangers of Messianic Leadership. He is the author several other books, including Management Studies in Crisis: Fraud, Deception and Meaningless Research (Cambridge University Press, 2019. Dennis is a former editor of the journal Leadership. One of his key interests is in organizations that can be described as cults, and he has been interviewed frequently about this on TV and radio. He has published widely on leadership, management and research integrity.
The ILA is pleased to partner with the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond on the Fredric M. Jablin Doctoral Dissertation Award. This award is given annually to a scholar whose doctoral dissertation research, while on any topic and from any discipline, demonstrates substantial insights and implications for the study of leadership. The award was established to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Fredric M. Jablin (1952-2004), Leadership Studies Professor and E. Claiborne Robins Distinguished Chair at the University of Richmond. The deadline to submit your dissertation for consideration is 15 June each year.
The ILA is pleased to partner with SAGE Publishing on the Most Publishable Leadership Education Paper Award. The award is given each year to the best presentation submission to the Leadership Education stream. Winner forthcoming!
ILA Outstanding Service Award
New in 2026! The ILA Outstanding Service award honors exceptional, individual ILA members who have demonstrated unwavering dedication and selfless service to the ILA community. The deadline to submit your nomination or self-nomination is 15 June each year.
Horizon Mid-Career Leadership Award
This award recognizes mid-career professionals who have made significant contributions to leadership education, leadership studies, and/or the practice of leadership through scholarship, pedagogy/teaching & learning, contributions to professional associations / the International Leadership Association, and collaboration; and have the potential to continue advancing the field for years to come. The deadline to submit your nomination or self-nomination is 15 June each year.
